Scuba Diving in Zanzibar
DIVING CONDITIONS & CLIMATE: The diving season is year-round with
visibility averaging 20m. Water temperatures range from 24 C to 30 C.
The topside air temperatures range between 25 C in winter to 35 C in summer.
February and March are the hottest months. Divers can use LYCRA, DARLEX
or POLARTEC suits during late spring, summer and early autumn. During
July and August a 3 mm shortie is best and for the evenings, a T - Shirt
is recommended.
DIVING ENVIRONMENT: The eastern Indian Ocean diving season is year round
with visibility averaging 70ft or 25m. Water temperatures range from 24C
during Kusi ( southern wind ) to 30C during Kaskazi ( northern wind ).
The topside air temperatures range between 24C in Kusi to 39C in Kaskazi.
TIME:: Zanzibar is 3 hours ahead of GMT.
Currency: Tanzanian Shilling or TSH. $1= TSH 1000 (approx)
Vaccinations: Yellow fever vaccinations are compulsory. Hepatitis A
and tetanus are recommended.
Visas for travelers: A three month tourist visa is easily attainable on
arrival at the airport.
Alternatively, you can buy one at the Tanzanian embassy in your own country.
Equipment: Scuba equipment must be within the weight allowance allowed
by the airline usually 20kg. Note: Some content and depth gauges and computers
can be affected by low pressure. As with cameras, these should be carried
as part of your hand luggage.
